Housewife strangled in Munshiganj

A housewife was killed allegedly by her husband in Panchghariakandi area of the district town early yesterday.

The deceased was identified as Mariam Akter Nishi, 18, wife of Al Amin of the area.

Police said Al Amin, son of Barek Bepari, married Nishi, daughter of Akter Hossain of Ganakpara in the town, three years ago.

After the marriage, Amin often tortured Nishi over trivial matter, said family sources.

Amin beat up Nishi following an altercation over a family matter on Wednesday night. At one stage, he strangled Nishi.

Being informed, police rushed to the spot, recovered the body and sent it to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy.

They also arrested Fatema Begum, mother-in-law of Nishi. Amin managed to flee the scene.

The deceased's mother Shefali Begum filed a case, said Yunus Ali, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
