Housewife murdered for 'dowry'

A housewife was murdered for 'dowry' in Joypurhat Sadar upazila on Saturday night.

The dead was identified as Rima Akhter, 18, wife of Abu Hasan, 22, of Badsha Chawkjagdishpur village in the upazila.

According to the family members, Rima was married to Abu Hasan of the same village 10 months ago. Her parents met all the dowry demands of the groom on the marriage day, they added.

Recently, Abu Hasan and his family members demanded a television as dowry from Rima's parents, who could not arrange the money.

Due to delay, Abu Hasan and his family members tortured Rima on Saturday night. They allegedly strangled her later.

Hearing that, Rima's father Masudur Rahman informed the police, who recovered the body and sent it to Joypurhat Modern Hospital for autopsy.
