A housewife was beaten to death allegedly by her husband for dowry in Phulbari upazila of the district on Wednesday.

The deceased is Nurjahan Begum, 23, wife of Mohammad Milon of Maheshpur village in the upazila.

Nurjahan's father Aksad Ali, a resident of neighbouring Kankun village, filed a murder case accusing Milon in this connection with Phulbari Police Station yesterday morning, Moksed Ali, officer-in-charge of the police station, said.

Quoting Aksad Ali, police said Milon often used to torture Nurjahan for dowry since their marriage nearly eight months ago.

On Wednesday evening, Milon beat up Nurjahan mercilessly as she refused to bring Tk 15,000 from her father and fled the scene. Nurjahan died instantly on the spot.

Being informed by the locals, police recovered the body from her bed room.

Away in Parbatipur upazila, police recovered the body of an unidentified youth from a cropland at Dalaikota village yesterday morning.
