Half of all train tickets to be sold at station counters from Sept 12
Bangladesh Railways has decided to sell half of all train tickets through station counters instead of selling all tickets online from September 12, according to a statement of Bangladesh Railways.
Train services remained suspended for more than two months in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak in the country in March.
A limited number of intercity trains were launched on May 31, leaving half the seats vacant and with all tickets being sold online to ensure social distancing measures.
Later, train operations resumed running on different routes across the country, but tickets were only available online.
However, it was decided that tickets for local, mail and commuter trains would be sold at the station from September 5 with the launch of the latest 19 pairs of train services.
The decision to leave half the seats vacant in each train will remain in force, the statement also read, adding that the sale of standing tickets will also remain suspended.
Unsold tickets at the counter and online quota can be issued by any means up to 120 hours before departure. Tickets will go on sale at the counters from 8:00am and online from 6:00am, the statement added.
