Govt official held with Tk 1.85cr in Dinajpur
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) today claimed to have detained a government official with Tk 1.85 crore at Parbatipur upazila of Dinajpur.
The arrestee Tazul Islam, 40, is a project implementation officer of Parbatipur upazila, reports our local correspondent quoting ACC officials.
Based on a call from hotline 106, a team of the anti-graft body conducted a raid at the office of Tazul in the upazila town around 5.30 pm and recovered Tk 55, 000, said Abu Hena Ashiqur Rahman, deputy director of the ACC in Dinajpur.
The ACC team later conducted another drive to his government allocated resident at the Upazila Parishad compound and recovered the rest amount of money from travel bags, under beds and Almirah, said the ACC official.
Most of the notes were bundle with Tk 1000, 500 and Tk 100, he added.
It could not be learnt how Tazul accumulated the money and why he kept the money at his resident instead of keeping those in Bank or elsewhere, the ACC officials said, adding that he might have embezzled the money without implementing projects.
The arrestee will be handed over to police, an official of the ACC said, adding that a case is underway in this regard.
Multiple union parishad chairmen alleged that Tazul, who joined as a project implementation officer in Parbatipur upazila on July 1, 2016, embezzled funds without implementing development projects.
They also claimed Tazul did not sanction any funds without bribe.
