Govt to compensate for losses in fisheries and livestock sector: Minister
Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim has said that the government would undertake all necessary measures including providing financial aid, to compensate for losses in the sector amid the coronavirus crisis period.
"Our government will stand beside all small farmers and commercial entrepreneurs at marginal levels by providing them financial incentives, low interest loans, technical support and subsidy for fish and animal feed," the minister said today.
The minister made the pledges in a view exchange meeting held at his Dhaka residence with all field level officials of the ministry to fix the next course of action in dealing with the prevailing crisis.
Calling upon all the field level officials to contribute their greatest effort, he said all will have to closely monitor the situation so that production in the fisheries and livestock sector is not hampered in this period of crisis.
The fisheries and livestock sector has already reached a stage of enriching the country's economy through exports after meeting the local demand for fish, meat, eggs and milk, he claimed.
He also instructed the officials to take rapid steps to introduce a fleet of mobile stalls selling fish, milk, eggs and meat and spread their presence across the country to meet losses in the sector.
