Gamblers hurt newsman

Gamblers assaulted a journalist at Baimail bus stand under Singair upazila of the district on Tuesday night.

The victim is Nasir Uddin Sami, 28, son of Jahangir Alam of Baimail village. He is district correspondent of online portal thereport24.com and Khola Kagoj, a Bengali daily.

Sami and locals said six people, including Jakir Hossain, 28, son of Sayed Ali and Saiful Islam, 27, son of Rafikul Islam of the village were gambling in a bamboo garden at the village at noon.

Informed, a team from Singair Police Station went to the spot and caught them. "But the gamblers were released later and threatened me as they thought I had informed the police," Sami said.

The gamblers attacked Sami with sticks at around 8:30pm in front of his house. He was admitted to Singair Upazila Health Complex.

Syeduzzaman, OC of Singair PS, said Sami lodged a case yesterday, accusing 4/5 people, including Jakir and Saiful.
