Four Tangail AL leaders expelled
Four local leaders of Awami League in the district have been expelled on charge of violating party discipline.
The decision was taken in an urgent meeting at the party's district office on Main Road in the town on Saturday night, said Alamgir Khan Menu, president of Tangail district unit of AL.
The expellees are Shamsuzzaman Pasha, convener of the district unit of Swechchhasebak League, Sanwar Hossain, vice-president of the town unit, Siraj Mallik, general secretary of Delduar upazila unit of AL, and its joint general secretary Atoar Rahman.
Fazlur Rahman Khan Faruque, general secretary of district unit of AL, Sanwar Hossain, lawmaker of Tangail-5 (Sadar) constituency, and Ashrafuzzaman Khan Smrity, organising secretary of the unit, among others, were present in the meeting.
On May 4, at least 10 leaders and activists of AL were injured in a clash between two factions of the party over the council of Delduar upazila unit.
Ruling party lawmaker from Tangail-6 (Nagarpur-Delduar) Khandakar Abdul Baten and district unit leaders of the party also faced an odd situation during the incident.
The council was scheduled to be held on the day after 12 years, but suspended following the clash between two rival groups.
