Four of 9 accused sent to jail on surrender

A Mymensingh court yesterday rejected bail petitions of four accused in Shimul murder case and sent them to jail.

They are prime accused Nurul Kabir, 45, his brother Humayun Kabir Bhutto, 43, and their relatives Manu, 35, and Shuvo, 33.

They surrendered before the Cognisance Court No-1 and sought bail. Judge Ahsan Habib rejected their bail prayers and sent them to jail, court sources said.

There was a feud between Bhutto and his cousin Samiul Hasan Rony of Digarkanda area in the town over payment of dues, police said.

On the night of February 6, Rony along with some of his friends went to Bhutto's house at Digarkanda and asked for the money. Bhutto, his brother Nurul Kabir, Manu and Shuvo locked in an altercation with Rony and a scuffle broke out between the two groups, locals said.

At one stage, Bhutto and Kabir fired several shots that hit Shimul and Sohan, who had gone to the area for personal reasons, they added.

Hearing screams, locals rushed to the spot and took them to MMCH where doctors declared Shimul dead at around 11:30pm.

  Shimul's mother Firoza Begum lodged a case with the Kotwali Police Station the following day, accusing nine people, including Kabir, Bhutto, Manu and Shuvo.

The five other accused are still at large.
