Former school teacher attacked in Bogura, dies at hospital

A former school teacher, who was critically injured after miscreants slashed both of his legs in Bogura's Sariakandi upazila, died at a hospital in the district this noon.

The deceased Shafiqul Islam (55), was an assistant teacher of the Durgahata girl's high school under Bogura's Gabtali upazila, our Bogura correspondent reports quoting Aziz Mondal, sub-inspector of Bogura's Silimpur police outpost.

Shafiqul breathed his last around 12:00pm at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital while undergoing treatment, said Aziz Mondal.

Sabina Yesmin, senior assistant superintendent (Gabtali circle) of police, said according to Shafiqul's wife he went outside around 9:00pm on Wednesday for a cup of tea but did not return home.

Locals found Shafiqul with his legs slashed in Taldah area of the upazila yesterday morning.

On information, police rushed to the spot and sent him to the hospital, said ASP Sabina.

The police official said Shafiqul had an altercation with his relatives over land. Along with that, a case filed for suspending him from school is under trial, added the ASP.
