Forest robbers abduct 6 fishermen

Forest robbers kidnapped six fishermen for ransom from the Mathabhanga River in the Sundarbans on Wednesday.

The abductees are Abul Hossain, 25, Makik Gazi, 50, Saddam Hossain, 22, Meghnath Baulia, 35, Rezon Fakir, 25, and Azgar Gazi, 45. The all hail from Mirgaang village under Shyamnagar upazila of the district.

Two fishermen, seeking anonymity, told this correspondent that eight fishermen in three boats went to the Sundarbans on Tuesday morning, taking prior permission from Kiokhali forest office under Satkhira range of the mangrove forest.

A gang of robbers belonging to infamous Rabiul 'Bahini' swooped on the fishermen while they were fishing in the Mathabhanga River on Wednesday evening and kidnapped six of them.

Later, the gang members demanded Tk 50,000 for release of each of the victims.
