Five robbers held after gunfight with cops

Five robbers were arrested after a 'gunfight' with police at Ajapara village in Terokhada upazila of the district early yesterday.

Rokonuzzaman, officer-in-charge of the detective branch (DB) of police, Khulna, said, law enforcers, acting on a tip-off, raided a place at the village where a gang of robbers were taking preparation around 12:30am for committing a robbery in the area.

Sensing the presence of a police team, the robbers opened fire, prompting the law enforcers to retaliate, police said, adding that Gang leader Morshed sustained bullet injuries during the 'shootout'.

Police later arrested injured Morshed and his four cohorts from the spot while the rest managed to flee.

The law enforcers seized a revolver, a pipe gun and five bullets from the possession of the arrestee, said the OC.
