Five injured in clash

At least five people, four of them from indigenous community, were injured during a clash morning between the ethnic people and Bangalis in Nawabganj upazila of Dinajpur district on Monday.

The injured are Babu Lal Hasda, 50, son of late Halpa Hasda, Jubilam Mardi, 50, son of late Raghunath Mardi, Gopi Ram Murmu, 50, of Jahanpur Adivasipara, Farukh Hossain 28, son of Mofizul Islam of Kamardangi village in the upazila, and a 32-year-old indigenous widow.

Witnesses said some adivasi people of Jahanpur Adivasipara in the upazila caught Faruk Hossain in a compromising position with an indigenous widow of the village on Sunday evening, and beat him up.

A team from Nawabganj Police Station rescued him at around 2:00am on Monday and sent him to the upazila health complex.

The people of Kamardangi village became angry when they got the news.

Around 100 people attacked Jahanpur Adivasipara around 10:00am on Monday, and beat up three people including the widow. Later, they left the place with Gopiram Murmu.

Later, Nawabganj upazila police rescued him and arrested four people from Kamardangi village.
