Fifteen hurt in Habiganj

At least 15 people were injured in a clash between the people of villages over an incident of eve teasing in Habiganj Sadar upazila on Tuesday.

Of them, five were admitted to Habiganj Sadar Hospital with severe injuries while the rest treated locally.

Police said one Sujon Mia, 28, son of Afil Mia of Mahmudpur village used to tease the girl students of Brindaban Government College in the town on their way to and from the college.

Over the issue, an altercation took place between some youths of No 2 Bridge area and Mahmudpur village in front of the college around 6:00pm.

At one stage, both the groups, equipped with sharp weapons, swooped on each other, leaving 15 people from both sides injured.

On information, police went to the spot, fired several rubber-bullets and teargas-shells to disperse the clashing groups, said Officer-in-Charge Nazim Uddin of Sadar Police Station.

Additional police have been deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident, the OC added.
