Family of slain AL leader demands arrest of killers
Police are reluctant to arrest the killers of slain Awami League leader Abdur Rahim Biswas of Pabna Sadar upazila though they are moving freely in the area.
The victim's wife Joytsna Khatun came up with the allegation at a press conference at Pabna Press Club in the town yesterday.
"The killers continued giving us death threat to withdraw the murder case against them," she said.
Joytsna at the conference also urged the prime minister to bring the killers to book immediately.
On May 22, Rahim, 35, secretary of ward No 3 of Goyeshpur union unit of AL, was shot to death allegedly by Habibur Rahman, president of the unit, and his men.
Habibur, a member candidate of the ward, was defeated in the union parishad (UP) election held on June 4.
Winning member Amzad Hossain blamed Habibur for the killing as Rahim supported him in the UP polls.
A day after the killing, the victim's brother Al Amin Hossain filed a case, accusing 12 people.
Contacted, Officer-in-Charge of Pabna Sadar Police Station Md Abdulla Al Hasan said most of the accused in the case got anticipatory bail from the High Court.
