Family claims Bangladeshi man injured in BSF firing near Thakurgaon border
A Bangladeshi man was injured, allegedly from shots fired by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Ratnai border in Thakurgaon's Baliadangi upazila today.
The man was identified as Tariqul Islam (40) of Dogachi Madhupur village under the upazila, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.
BSF members of Sonamoti camp shot him while he was working at his watermelon field, about 50 yards from the border, this morning -- leaving him injured, his family members said.
He was later admitted to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital for treatment.
Resident Medical Officer Dr Rakibul Alam said Tariqul Islam was admitted around 10:30am with injuries on head and other parts of his body.
However, after being provided primary treatment and advised for an X-ray, Tariqul mysteriously fled the hospital, the RMO added.
Hasibul Islam Prodhan, officer-in-charge of Baliadangi Police Station, said police came to know about the matter from hospital sources after his admission there.
Lt Col Shahidul Islam, commanding officer of Thakurgaon 50 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), said they were informed about the incident but are yet to confirm the spot.
Replying to a query, the BGB official said they contacted BSF but they denied the allegation.
