Fake herbal medicine factory found, four arrested

A task force comprising police and civil administration unearthed a fake herbal medicine factory at Nischintapur in Thakurgaon municipality area on Wednesday and arrested four people in this connection.

The arrestees are Golam Mostafa, 60, his two sons Farhad Hossain, 35, and Sheikh Farid, 30, and Samrat, 22, a worker of the factory.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of task force, led by Executive Magistrate Lubna Farzana, raided the house of Mostafa in the area around 5:00pm and unearthed the fake herbal factory.

They also seized huge amounts of substandard herbal vitamin syrups and capsules from the spot.     

The team also found the factory producing herbal medicines in the name of Semco Pharma, Thakurgaon, Hikma Pharma, Narayanganj and Rapitec Pharma for long.   

Police filed a case with Thakurgaon Police Station under Special Powers Act, accusing four people, said Officer-in-Charge AKM Mehedi Hasan.

In Bogra, a mobile court in Sonatola upazila of the district yesterday fined seven factories Tk 11000 each for producing vermicelli in an unhygienic environment.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer Habibur Rahman led the court, reports our correspondent.
