Fake Covid-19 reports: Shahabuddin Medical College Hospital MD gets bail
The Managing Director of Shahabuddin Medical College Hospital yesterday got bail in a case filed over using unauthorised Covid-19 test kits and forging Covid-19 test reports at the hospital.
Judge KM Emrul Kayesh of the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court of Dhaka granted bail to Faisal Al Islam (34) after his lawyer Shahinur Islam submitted a criminal appeal against the rejection order of the lower court.
In the appeal, the lawyer said his client has been suffering from different ailments including heart disease and he should be granted bail on medical grounds.
Shahinur also said his client had an open heart surgery before he was arrested in the case.
Assistant Commissioner (Prosecution) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Md Farid Ahmed opposed it, saying that the accused along with others had committed offences by using unauthorised Covid-19 test kits and forging Covid-19 test reports.
So, his bail petition should be rejected, the prosecution added.
Upon hearing both sides, the judge granted the accused bail on medical grounds.
Rapid Action Battalion arrested Faisal from a hotel in Gulshan area of Dhaka on July 20. The two officials of the hospital -- assistant director Dr Abul Hasnat (52) and inventory officer Shahriz Kabir (33) -- were also arrested during a drive conducted at the hospital on July 19.
Following their arrest, all the three including Faisal were placed on a three-day remand each in the case.
Nayek Subeder Fazlul Bari of Rab-1 filed the case with Gulshan Police Station against Faisal Al Islam and the two others for their alleged involvement in committing the offences.
