Fake Covid-19 certificates: HC rejects bail petition of JKG chairman Dr Sabrina

The High Court today refused to grant bail to JKG Healthcare Chairman Dr Sabrina Arif Chowdhury in a case filed over issuing fake Covid-19 certificates.

The HC bench of Justice Sheikh Md Zakir Hossain and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar passed the rejection order considering that the bail petition was not presented properly before it.

During hearing of the bail petition, the bench said that it will not grant bail to Sabrina as the trial court has already recorded statements of 11 witnesses of the case and the trial proceedings of the case are at final stage, Deputy Attorney General Monirul Islam told reporters.

Sabrina's lawyer Syed Mamun Mahbub could not be reached over phone for his comments.

Dr Sabrina has recently filed the bail petition with the HC, citing ground that she has been in jail for a long period and there is no specific allegation against her.

Earlier on July 20, a Dhaka court denied bail to Sabrina in connection with the same case.
