Ex-UP member, youth held for raping 2 minor girls

Police arrested a former union parishad member in Basotpur area under Sharsha upazila of Jessore district on Saturday night on charge of violating a five-year-old girl, according to Benapole correspondent.

The arrestee is former UP member Abdus Sattar, son of late Yeasin Ali of Basotpur village in the upazila.

Habibur Rahman, sub-inspector of Bagachhara police outpost, said Sattar lured the minor girl into his house in the morning and raped her.

Later, the girl returned to her residence and fell ill and told her mother about the incident.

The family members took her to the upazila health complex from where she was shifted to Jessore Medical College Hospital.

Following a case filed by the victim's parents, Sharsha police arrested the culprit around 9:00pm, said the SI.

In Feni, police yesterday arrested a youth on charge of raping a six-year-old schoolgirl in Barahipur area under Feni municipality, reports our correspondent.

The arrestee is Shaheedul Islam, 20, a third year student of Feni Polytechnic Institute. He hails from Sonapur village of Sonazagi upazila in the district.

He has been living in a rented room of a house in the area for three years. Victim's mother filed a case against Shaheedul with Feni Model Police Station on Saturday night under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

According to the case statement, Shaheedul forcibly took the girl, a Class 1 student of a local primary school, to his room and raped her. When the girl disclosed the matter to her mother, Shaheedul fled the area.

Contacted, Sub-Inspector Harun-ur-Rashid of the police station said law enforcers, acting on a tip-off, went to Mirersarai in Chittagong and arrested Shaheedul from there in the afternoon.

Police said Saheedul confessed to raping the girl during preliminary interrogation at the police station.
