Ex-Major Sinha killing: Cox's Bazar SP must be brought to book, says RAOWA chairman

The police superintendent of Cox's Bazar must also be brought to book, said RAOWA Chairperson and General Secretary Major Khandaker Nurul Afser during a meeting with journalists at the former residence of slain ex-Major Sinha Rashed Md Khan today.

"Since a RAOWA member has been murdered, we will implore all levels of the state so that the investigation is fair and justice is served," he said.

The exchange happened when RAOWA (Retired Army Officers' Welfare Association) Chairperson and General Secretary Major Khandaker Nurul Afser paid a visit to Sinha's mother to express his condolence.

Nasima Akhter, mother of slain ex-Major Sinha Rashed Md Khan, echoed similar thoughts, while also expressing satisfaction with the prosecution of former officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das and Inspector Liaqat Ali.

However while this is a satisfying step in the positive direction, the system must be changed to make a more humane society, she said.

Major (retired) Sinha was killed in what the Teknaf police claimed was a shootout at a checkpoint on Marine Drive in Cox's Bazar on July 31, 2020.
