Ex-LGED official lands in jail

A court here sent a former government official to jail, rejecting his bail prayer in a case for embezzling government fund. On June 15 in 2014, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) in Kushtia filed the case against Safayet Hossain, the then chief accountant of Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) in the district. According to the case statement, Safayet withdrew Tk 17 lakh from an account of LGED by forging signature of its chief engineer on October 20, 1998. Later, a departmental case was filed against him in 2000. The accused then challenged the case by filing a writ with the High Court (HC). On April 13 in 2013, a HC bench rejected the writ.
