Ex-BNP MP held in Meherpur

Former BNP lawmaker of Meherpur was arrested early today in a case filed for violence during the party's anti-government movement in 2014.

A member of BNP's National Executive Committee, arrestee Masud Arun was a lawmaker from Meherpur-1 constituency, reports our Kushtia correspondent.

Hamidul Alam, superintendent of police in Meherpur, said a team of Meherpur Sadar Police Station raided Arun's house in the district headquarter at about 5:30am and arrested him.

Arun was accused in four cases filed during the anti-government movement two years back, the SP said.

Meherpur Judicial Magistrate Court recently issued an arrest warrant against Arun in one of cases, he added.
