Escapee arrested, convict flees from jail gate

An accused, who managed to flee from police custody in Jamalpur on Tuesday, was held again yesterday while a convicted drug peddler escaped from Sirajganj jail gate the day before.

A handcuffed young man, accused in a case for torturing his wife, who managed to flee from police custody soon after his arrest, was held at Zakirpara village in Baksiganj upazila of Jamalpur yesterday noon, reports our correspondent.

The arrestee is Billal Hossain, 30, husband of Moni Begum, 25, of Pakhimara village in the upazila.

Aslam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Baksiganj Police Station, said following a case filed by Moni, police arrested Billal from Pakhimara area on Tuesday night and handcuffed him.

While taking him towards the police station, there was a scuffle between Billal and a policeman. At one stage of brawl, he managed to flee from the scene, said the OC.

A convicted woman drug peddler managed to flee from the gate of Sirajganj District Jail on Tuesday, reports our Pabna courrespondent.

After the incident, the authority suspended jail keeper Shamim Hossain for his negligence of duty while a case was filed accusing another jail keeper Ashraful Islam, said jailor Md Al Mamun.

A mobile court on Tuesday sentenced Kulsum Begum, 20, wife of Motaleb Hossain to one month's imprisonment in a drug peddling case at Saydabad village in Sirajganj Sadar upazila.

Kulsum was taken to the district jail gate in the afternoon but she managed to flee from the scene, he said.

Police are raiding different areas to arrest Kulsum, said the jailor.
