The election commission has decided to file a case against Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury -- popularly known as Nixon Chowdhury -- lawmaker of Faridpur-4, for violating electoral codes of conduct.

"The case will be filed anytime within today or tomorrow," KM Nurul Huda, chief election commissioner (CEC) said while talking to reporters after the law and order coordination meeting with law enforcement agencies on the occasion of by-elections of Dhaka-5 and Dhaka-18.

CEC Nurul Huda said they have enough evidence in their hands to file a case against lawmaker Nixon Chowdhury.

Meanwhile, the EC has formed a three-member probe committee to further scrutinise aginst him apart from these findings, said the CEC.

About the by-elections of Dhaka, CEC Nurul Huda said the commission would not face any challenges in the Dhaka by-elections.

Election Commissioners, police, Rapid Action Battalion and other law enforcement agency high-ups were present at the meeting.

Yesterday, MP Nixon Chowdhury at a press conference sought legal action against Faridpur Deputy Commissioner Atul Sarkar, claiming that the DC acted in favour of BNP candidate KM Obaidul Bari in the recently held election for the chairman post of Charbhadrasan upazila.

He also hurled abusive language at the DC and an AC (land) in separate telephone conversations. The MP, however, claimed that the phone conversations were heavily edited.

Earlier, CEC KM Nurul Huda said Nixon Chowdhury had violated the electoral code of conduct and action will be taken in this regard as per the election law.
