Early marriage bid foiled, 2 held

A mobile court yesterday launched a drive at Velajan village in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila and sent a bridegroom and a marriage registrar to jail.

The convicts are marriage registrar Abdul Quader, son of late Asgar Ali of Pahardanga village in the upazila, and bridegroom Md Islam, 26, son of Akalu Mohammad of Mistripara village in Baliadangi upazila of the district.

Abdul Quader was jailed for 20 days while Islam for 15 days.

Acting on a tip-off, the court led by Assistant Commissioner (land) Md Rashedul Haque Prodhan raided the house of the girl at the village at around midnight when her marriage was set to be solemnised with Islam.
