Early marriage bid foiled

A mobile court sentenced a marriage registrar to one month's imprisonment for arranging marriage of an underage girl in Moheshpur upazila of the district on Sunday.

The convict is Md Abdullah, 25, son of Khoka Mandol of Divikundo village in Chuadanga district.

Police and locals said the 13-year-old girl, daughter of Abdur Rahman of Fatepur village in the upazila, was set to be married with Alamgir Hossain, 22, son of Abdul Haq of Teghori-Pantapara village, at night.

Being informed, police rushed to the spot and foiled the marriage. They also arrested Abdullah from the spot.

He was later produced before the court, led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashafur Rahman, which punished him.
