Drug peddlers hurt schoolboy
A schoolboy was injured in an attack by some alleged drug addict youths in railway officers' colony area under Saidpur upazila of the district yesterday.
The victim is Amir Faisal Monir, 13, a student of Class VIII of Lions School and College in Saidpur municipality. He was admitted to Saidpur 100-bed Hospital.
"Saju, Fiju, Raja, Sazzad and Tarikul had been demanding Tk 5000 for buying drugs for the last few days," said Monir, adding that as he expressed inability to meet their demand, they became furious and threatened him with dire consequence.
They beat him with steel rods in the area when he was returning home from school, the victim told this correspondent at the hospital bed.
Hearing screams, locals rushed to the spot, rescued the boy and sent him to the hospital. However, the attackers managed to flee the scene.
Mamunur Rashid, father of the schoolboy, said "The drug addicts continued threatening us not to file any case in this connection otherwise my son's life would be endangered."
