Drug case: Suspended SI placed on fresh remand
A Dhaka today placed a suspended police sub-inspector and one of his accomplices on a four-day fresh remands in a case filed over possessing 11,600 pieces of yaba.
The accused are: Atikul Islam, a sub-inspector of Bandarban District Court, and his associate Rezaur Rob.
Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mainul Islam passed the order after SI Golam Kibria of Mohammadpur Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court with a seven-day fresh remand prayer.
Earlier on June 16, the two arrestees were placed on two-day remands each in the same case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station.
In the remand prayer, the IO said they gave important information about the yaba smuggling. So they need to be remanded to gather more information about the incident, the IO added.
Based on information that narcotics dealers are selling yaba from a pickup van at Shahjahan Road in Mohamamdpur area, a police team conducted a drive there on June 15, and made the arrests.
Searching the arrestees and the pickup van, the police team recovered 11,600 pieces of yaba pills and seized Tk 5.25 lakh.
Atikul was on leave from March 23 and got involved in the yaba trade without joining his work place, police source said.
Following the incident, a case was filed against them under the Narcotics Control Act.
