Digital Security Act: Rastrachinta activist Didarul secures HC bail

Star Online Report

The High Court today granted six months' ad-interim bail to Didarul Islam Bhuiyan, an activist of a platform called "Rastrachinta", in a case filed against him under the Digital Security Act, clearing the way for him to walk out of jail.

The court also issued a rule asking the state to show cause in four weeks why Didarul should not be granted regular bail in the case.

The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Md Mostafizur Rahman made the order and rule following a petition filed by Didarul seeking bail in the case.

Hasnat Quaiyum, Didarul's lawyer, told The Daily Star that there is no legal bar to his client's release from jail following the HC order.

Deputy Attorney General Sarwar Hossain Bappi told this correspondent that the HC granted bail to Didarul as Minhaz Mannan, fourth accused of the same case, had earlier obtained bail from a magistrate court.

Lawyers Jyotirmoy Barua and Kazi Zahed also appeared for Didarul during the hearing of his bail petition.

Didarul was arrested on May 5. He was implicated under the Digital Security Act on charges of "spreading rumours and carrying out anti-government activities".
