Daughter-in-law shot at UP chairman’s home in Noakhali’s Begumganj
The daughter-in-law of Noakhali's Begumganj Upazila Parishad chairman Shahnaz Begum was injured after being shot at their residence this afternoon.
Subarna Haque is now undergoing treatment at Noakhali General Hospital with injuries, said Dr Nurul Islam, a surgeon of the hospital.
The 28-year-old suffered injury in her left foot, our Noakhali correspondent reports, quoting the physician.
The incident happened at the Upazila Parishad chairman's home in Hajipur Dakhkhin Bazar area around 2pm when voting of Chowmuhoni municipality election was underway.
Talking to reporters, victim's mother-in-law Shahnaz said Subarna was shot while drinking tea in the living room around 2pm. She had returned home after casting vote.
Shahnaz also said her nephew (sister's son) Akhter Hossain Foysal is a mayoral candidate with "boat" symbol in the election.
Alamgir Hossain, superintendent of Noakhali Police, said the voting of Chowmuhoni municipality election was held in peaceful atmosphere. There was no incident of violence or shooting in the municipality.
Police are looking into the incident, he added.
