Criminals attack five shops in Baufal

At least five people were injured as criminals attacked six shops owned by Hindus at Sabupura Bazar in Baufal upazila of the district on Monday.

Police arrested one Al Amin, 25, from the spot in connection with the incident.

Of the injured, Bankim Chandra Ojha, 25, and his mother Monju Rani, 47, were admitted to Patuakhai General Hospital.

Police said the shops, owned by Sanjib Chandra Ojha and his two brothers Shamkan Chandra Ojha and Bankim Chandra Ojha, are in front of their house at the bazar and those were rented to other traders of the area.

There was a longstanding conflict between the victims and their neighbour Abdus Salam Hawlader.

Around 7:00pm on Monday, a gang of 10/15 people allegedly led by Salam attacked the shops to occupy the land.

When Hindu people tried to resist the attackers, they swooped on them, leaving the five injured.

On information, the law enforcers rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
