Criminal killed in shootout with rivals in Faridpur

Law enforcers recovered the bullet-hit body of a listed criminal from Piyarpur area of Faridpur town on Saturday night.

The deceased, Shahin Alam alias Hatkata Shahin, 37, son of late Motahar Hossain of Kamlapur area in the town, was a fugitive accused in at least 18 cases filed with different police stations.

He was sentenced to 54 years imprisonment by a Faridpur court in four out of 18 cases, police said.

Kamruzzaman, additional superintendent of police in Faridpur, said they came to know that two gangs of listed criminals were trading bullets on the bypass road around 11:00pm.

A police team led by Sub-Inspector Abhijit Sarker of Kotwali Police Station went to the spot, fired blank shots and dispersed the clashing groups, the ASP added.

Police later found Shahin's bullet-hit body lying on the spot.
