Crackdown on casino: Khaled remanded for 7 more days

Expelled Jubo League leader Khaled Mahmud Bhuiyan has been placed on fresh remand for seven more days in two cases related to drugs and money laundering after his arrest for running a casino in Fakirapool area of Dhaka.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury granted a four-day remand for Khaled when police produced him before the court with a 10-day remand prayer in a case filed under Money Laundering Act.

Besides, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Kanak Barua granted three-day remand for him after police produced him before the court seeking seven-day remand in another case filed under Narcotics Control Act.

Khaled was produced before the two separate courts today on completion of his 10-day remand period.

On September 27, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Didar Hossain granted a 10-day remand for Khaled when Rab-3 Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Md Belayet Hossain produced him with a 20-day remand prayer in two cases.

On September 19, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmuda Akter granted a four-day remand for Khaled in one of the cases while the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahinur Rahman put him on a three-day remand in another case filed under Narcotics Control Act.

Khaled, president of Youngmen’s Football Club, was arrested on September 18 from his Gulshan residence, in the wake of the crackdown at a casino in the football club.

Khaled’s arrest came after a Rab mobile court detained and sentenced 142 people raiding the “casino” in Fakirerpool Youngmen’s Club and seized some apparently blackjack tables, slot machines, Tk 24.29 lakh in cash, yaba pills, and some bottles of liquor.
