Court orders cops to sue BNP leader's son

A Jhalakathi court has ordered police to file a case against a BNP leader's son for giving death threat to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina while a Tk 100 crore defamation case was filed in Rangpur for defamatory comments against the PM and her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Jhalakathi District and Sessions Judge's Court on Sunday ordered Jhalakathi Sadar police to file a case against Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiqui, son of BNP leader Chowdhury Tanvir Ahmed Siddiqui, for giving death threat to the prime minister, reports our Jhalakathi correspondent.

Judge Ramoni Ranjan Chakma passed the order after hearing the complaint, said petitioner Bani Amin Baklai, also an advocate of Jhalakathi court, adding that Irad gave the threat on his Facebook status on September 25.

Our Dinajpur correspondent reports: A Tk 100 crore defamation case was filed in Rangpur on Sunday for defamatory comments in Facebook against Hasina.

Rangpur BCL President Mehdi Hasan filed the case with a judicial magistrate's court accusing Chowdhury Irad Ahmed Siddiqui, 45, son of late Chowdhury Tanvir of Faliadi village under Kaliakoir upazila of Gazipur.

The case statement mentioned that the accused wrote several defamatory comments in his Facebook page against the PM and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on September 9, 14 and 25.

Mostaque Ahmed, judge of the court, ordered police to file a report on November 30, said Abu Sayeed Suman, lawyer of the plaintiff.
