Coronavirus: 38 traders fined for selling essential items at high prices in Noakhali
Mobile courts today conducted drives in different kitchen markets in five upazilas of Noakhali and fined some 38 traders nearly Tk 2 lakh for selling essential items at high prices following the coronavirus outbreak.
Chatkhil Upazila assistant commissioner (Land) and executive magistrate Mahmuda Kulsum Moni said a mobile court team led by her launched the drives from morning till evening after being information that some dishonest traders were selling essential items at high prices.
During the drive, the court fined 10 offending shops Tk 57,000, magistrate Mahmuda said.
Another mobile court fined four business establishments Tk 13,000 in Bashurhat of Companyganj upazila for the same reason, said Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Foysal Ahmed.
Besides, four grocery shops were fined Tk 12,000 by a mobile court in Hatiya upazila while two rice wholesalers were fined Tk 9,000 in Senbag upazila, and 18 other shops were fined Tk 1.7 lakh on the same grounds, our Noakhali correspondent reports quoting the mobile courts' magistrates.
