Cop murder accused arrested with arms

Police detained a key accused in a police officer murder case from Pakshey area in Ishwardi upazila of the district early yesterday. They also seized a firearm from his possession.

The arrestee is Md Touhidul Islam Selim, 35, son of Shawkat Ali of Shahapur village in the upazila. He is an arms dealer and a key accused in the ATSI Sujaul murder case, police said.

Biman Kumar Das, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station, said, acting on a tip-off, Ishwardi police arrested Touhidul near the Pakshey Lalonshah bridge. Police recovered a rifle and two bullets from his possession, he added.

Md Sujaul Islam of Pakshey police camp was called by an unidentified man from his house near the camp on the evening of October 4, 2015, when he was on patrol duty in the area. Later, he was found dead in a field near the camp on October 5.

Men of the drugs and arms dealers' syndicate killed Sujaul for running their business in the area, according to police investigation.

"Touhidul is one of the key accused of the murder charge. He went into hiding after the incident. Police arrested him early Monday," The OC said.
