College girl beaten by rapist's family

An alleged rapist and his family members beat up a college girl at a village arbitration in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila on Wednesday while a 14-year-old girl was raped in Haripur upazila under the district on Friday.

Rashidul Islam, 25, son of Hafiz Uddin of Bahadurpara village in Thakurgaon Sadar upazila, developed physical relation with a college girl of the same village, promising to marry her, the girl said in the case filed with Thakurgaon Police Station on Friday night.

As their relation became known in the area, Rashidul's family members on Wednesday organised arbitration at the village where Rashidul and his friends beat the girl mercilessly.

Rashidul, her mother Rawshan Ara Begum, 50, Md Ena, 30, and Badar Ali, 50, of the same village were made accused in the case, said Belal Hossain, sub-inspector of Thakurgaon Police Station.   

Later local people brought the girl to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital from where she was released after treatment on Friday.  

The victim, also a second year HSC student of Thakurgaon Government Women's College, told the reporters that Rashidul continued physical relation against her will with the promise of marrying her but denied the relation when she put pressure on him for marriage after the matter became known to the locals.

Teenage girl raped

Father of a 14-year-old rape-victim girl of Shinghari village filed a rape case with Haripur Police Station on Saturday, said Ruhul Quddus, officer in charge (OC) of Haripur Police Station.

The accused is Alkes, 20, son of Mainul Islam of Maldhoapara Shinghari village under Haripur upazila.
