College boy hurt in attack by rivals dies in Naogaon

Land dispute leaves 4 injured in Patuakhali

A college boy, who sustained injuries in an attack by rivals allegedly over a disputed pond in Tebaria area in Natore town on June 21, died at a private hospital in Rajshahi on Sunday night.

The deceased, Mithu Ahmed, 19, son of Abdus Samad of the area, was an HSC student at TMSS College in the district town.

Quoting victim's family members, police said there had been a longstanding rivalry between Abdus Samad and one Shimul Hossain of the area over the ownership of a disputed pond.

As a sequel to the dispute, Shimul's men, equipped with bamboo sticks and iron rods, attacked Samad's house around 12:00noon, leaving Mithu and his parents injured.

Locals took Mithu to Natore Sadar Hospital and then shifted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to a private hospital in the city where he died around 9:30pm on Sunday.

Officer-in-Charge (investigation) Nazrul Islam of Sadar Police Station said victim's father Abdus Samad filed a case with the police station against six people the same night.

Away in Patuakhali, four members of a family were injured in an attack by their rivals over a land dispute at Laukathi village in Sadar upazila yesterday.

Injured, Abdul Mazid, 65, his wife Achhia Begum, 60, and sons Jewel Rana, 27, and Jahirul Islam, 18, are undergoing treatment at Patuakhali General Hospital.

Police said there had been a feud between Mazid and Abdur Rahman over the ownership of a disputed land.

As a sequel to that, Rahman and his men attacked Mazid and his family members with sharp weapons, leaving the four critically injured.
