Chuadanga murder accused killed in ‘gunfight’ with Rab
The prime accused of a murder case was killed in a "gunfight" with Rapid Action Battalion in Damurhuda upazila of Chuadanga early today.
Deceased Rakibul Islam alias Rakib Member, 28, was the main accused in a case filed for killing school student Mahfuz Alam Sajib, our Kushtia correspondent reports quoting Major Munir Ahmed, deputy director of Rab-6 in Jhenidah.
Acting on a tip-off that Rakib was staying at his Gobindpur house along with his accomplices, the elite force raided the area around 2:30am, the deputy director said.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, Rakib and his cohorts opened fire on them that triggered the 30-minute "gunfight".
After the criminals ran away, Rab found bullet-hit Rakib lying on the ground. He died on way to Damurhuda Upazila Health Complex, the Rab official said.
Rab recovered a locally-made shutter gun, two bullets and a sword from the spot.
Sajib, 15, son of Habibur Rahman of Dashami village in Damurhuda, was abducted on July 29 this year. The abductors demanded Tk 20 lakh as ransom from the family the following day.
Family decided to pay the ransom, but the captors killed the boy in two days of the abduction and concealed the body inside a septic tank of a house rented by Rakib in C&B area of the upazila, Major Munir said.
Rab recovered the dead body from on August 30, he added.
