Child marriage, father jailed

A mobile court in Meherpur district yesterday sentenced a man to 20 days' imprisonment for marrying off his underage daughter. The convict is Shamim Munshi, 55, of Kamarkhali village in Gangni upazila. On Friday night, the 14-year-old girl was married to one Rintu Hossain of Khalishakundi in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia with the consent of her father Shamim. On information, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Gangni Rahat Mannan, who led the court, rushed to the spot and punished Shamim. However, the couple managed to flee the scene.
