Cattle lifter beaten to death

An alleged cattle lifter was beaten to death at Gaurinathpur village in Moheshpur upazila of the district early Tuesday.

The deceased is Nur Islam, 50, son of Fazer Ali of Alampur village in the upazila.

Officer-in-charge of Moheshpur Police Station Aminul Islam said, Nur Islam entered one Rabiul Islam's house for lifting cattle around 4:00am.

The family members sensed his presence and caught him red handed.

They along with a mob gave him a good beating, leaving him dead on the spot.

Nur Islam is an accused in several cases, including those for theft and robbery, said the OC.

The body was sent to Jhenidah Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, he said.
