Bullet-hit man dies at MMCH

An elderly man, who was shot by unidentified criminals at Rajarhat village in Doail union under Sarishabari upazila of the district on Friday night, died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) yesterday morning.

The deceased was identified as Mozzafar Hossain, 65, of Haatbari village in the upazila.

Police and family sources said Mozaffar Hossain and Abdul Hanif, 50, son of Efaj Uddin, president of ward No 2 unit of the union Awami League, were taking tea at a tea stall in the area at around 7:30 pm.

A gang of masked criminals riding two motorbikes opened fire targeting Hanif. Hanif was shot in the head and died instantly while Mozzafar received bullet injuries in his left leg and stomach, said police.

Mozzafar was admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at around 6:30am, police said.

On Saturday, Hanif's wife Hasi Begum filed a murder case with Sarishabari Police Station against eight unnamed people, said Billal Uddin, officer-in-charge of the police station.

"We are raiding different areas of the upazila to arrest the culprits," the OC added.
