Bid to abduct schoolgirl foiled, 5 arrested

An attempt by a group of youths to abduct a schoolgirl was foiled by neighbours at Digalkandi village in Madarganj upazila of the district on Sunday night.

The victim, 14, is a Class VII student of a local high school.

Police, quoting the victim's family members, said a love affair had developed over mobile phone between the girl and Al-Amin,19, son of Majam Ali of Kendua Kalibari village under Jamalpur Sadar upazila.

Al-Amin, along with four accomplices, went to the village on Sunday at around 11:00pm and called the girl to meet him. The girl came out of the house and met Al-Amin.

At one stage, Al-Amin and his accomplices tried to take the girl away in a CNG-run autorickshaw, but she started screaming.

Hearing the screams, neighbours rushed to the spot, rescued the girl and caught the five youths red-handed, said Harunur Rashid, sub-inspector of Madarganj Police Station.

Later, the youths were handed over to police, said Rampada Mondol, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.

Victim's father filed a case with the police station yesterday, accusing the five youths. Monday noon, the OC added.

The arrestees are Al-Amin, Abdus Sobhan, 20, son of Golam Mostafa, Sumon, 20, son of Abdul Khalek, Mafizur Rahman, 21, son of Maznu Miah and Russel, 19, son of Dukhu Miah. They all are residents of Kendua Kalibari area under Sadar upazila.
