Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on Monday requested its Indian counterpart, Border Security Force (BSF), to help identify the abductors of the two tourists and their local guide who were abducted from Rangamati's remote Bilaichhari upazilla on October 3.

Armed criminals abducted Abdullah Al Jubayer, 26, of Mirpur-2, Jaker Hossain Munna, 34, of Eastern Housing area of Dhaka, and their local guide Mangsai Mro, 30, from Sepru para in Bilaichhari upazila on their way to remote Chetlang waterfall in the upazila.

"We asked the BSF to trace the links of the abductors so that they could be identified and arrested," said BGB Bandarban Sector Commander Lieutenant Colonel Waliur Rahman.

"BSF officials said they have informed their higher authorities of the matter and assured us of their help to locate the abducted tourists and their guide," he added.

A massive search operation is on in the area where the abduction took place. Border security was tightened immediately after the abduction of the trio, he further said.

Apart from the abduction, BGB and BSF discussed ways to coordinate border patrolling and also talked about issues of mutual interest, Waliur said.
