BGB in Bandarban recovered 50,000 yaba pills; didn’t hand over to police
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) recovered at least 50,000 yaba tablets in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban on Thursday and kept those in their own custody instead of handing those over to any police station till this afternoon.
Mohammed Alamgir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Naikhongchhari Police Station, said BGB did not hand over the 50,000 yaba pills to them till today after recovering those on Thursday.
"It is illegal for any person or organisation to keep recovered drugs in their own possession," said the OC.
Lt Col Ali Haider Azad Ahmed, commanding officer of BGB Battalion 34, told our Bandarban correspondent that a BGB patrolling team recovered the 50,000 yaba pills from Korbunia area on Thursday and kept those in their possession.
"BGB normally keeps yaba in its own possession after recovery. The yaba pills are destroyed in the presence of noted persons, including police, in case it's a big haul," said the commanding officer.
"It's a BGB tradition which we have been practicing," added the BGB officer.
On October 24, a BGB team recovered 10,000 pieces of yaba and filed a case with Naikhongchhari Police Station, handing over 1,000 pills out of 10,000 to the police station.
The court sought an explanation from him (the OC) over the matter, OC Anwar further said.
