Auto-rickshaw driver hacked to death

A battery-run auto-rickshaw driver was hacked to death at Khetardanga point on Palashbari-Chawra bazar road on Friday night.

The deceased is Subidth Chandra Roy, 30, son of Dhonuram Roy of Gayandas Kanaikata village in Sadar upazila.

Police and locals said a gang of two hired the auto-rickshaw of the victim from Palashbari bazar area to go to Chawra bazar four kilometers away from there.

When the rickshaw reached near a bridge at Khetardanga point of Palasbari-Chawra road around 8:45pm, the duo attacked Roy with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured and took away the vehicle.

He was rushed to Nilphamari 100-bed Hospital and then referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) as his condition deteriorated.

He died on way to RMCH.
