Auto-rickshaw driver with chronic bronchitis dies in Kushtia
A 51-year-old man suffering from cold, cough, fever and breathing problems for the past three days died at Kushtia General Hospital this morning.
On-duty doctors declared him dead when he was taken to the hospital around 7:30am as his condition deteriorated, our Kushtia correspondent reports quoting doctors.
The man -- a battery-run auto-rickshaw driver -- died before he was brought to the hospital, said Tapas Kumar Sarkar, residential medical officer (RMO) of the hospital.
The man's family has no connection with any expatriates, the RMO said.
"However, we are checking whether the man got in touch with someone with coronavirus infection while driving his auto-rickshaw," Tapas said.
Samples have been collected for testing as per the directions of IEDCR, HM Anwarul Islam, civil surgeon of Kushtia said.
"The body will be buried in accordance with the rules of the IEDCR," he said.
Local administration has locked down the house of the man, and his family members will be kept in quarantine until the report from IEDCR is available, Aslam Hossain, deputy commissioner (DC) of Kushtia, said.
The autorickshaw driver had been living at a rented house at the Chourhas area in the town.
He had been suffering from chronic bronchitis for a while and his health complications intensified recently during season change, family members said.
