Attacks on Hindus: NHRC doubts role of Rasraj

A day into visiting Nasirnagar of Brahmanbaria, the fact-finding team of National Human Rights Commission has expressed doubt over the role of the person who was detained after the mayhem on Hindu community.

The two-hour long mayhem was blamed on a Facebook post from the account of Rasraj Das, 27, a fisherman.

Rasraj does not seem like a person with the technical knowledge to manipulate a picture, National Human Rights Commission Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque said at a press conference.

The team submitted the report to the NHRC chairman at his office in Dhaka today after visiting the temples and the houses that came under the attack in Brahmanbaria on Sunday.

The chairman further said the attacks were carried out around the same time in multiple places by different groups of youths, which indicates that it was planned ahead, the NHRC chief said while presenting the findings of the team report before journalists.

On Sunday, around 200 religious bigots attacked at least five temples, and vandalised and looted about 100 Hindu houses in several localities in Nasirnagar over a Facebook post purportedly from the account of one Rasraj Das. The attackers also beat up more than 100 people.
