Attack on Hindus: Minister criticises journos
A ruling party minister who had claimed that the rampage on Hindus in Brahmanbaria was "nothing serious" today criticised journalists for publishing "negative reports" for his comments.
Local lawmaker and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Sayedul Haque called out journalists during a rally held in front of Gaura Temple – one of the affected temples during Sunday's rampage.
"Journalists always do negative reports," he exclaimed.
He also criticised activists of Nagorik Oikyo, Hindu-Bouddha-Christian Oikyo Parishad and other human rights activists over their outcries of justice in the matter of the attack.
Zealots on Sunday went on rampage over the Hindu community – vandalising and ransacking at least five temples and over a 100 homes – over a Facebook post of a local youth.
National Human Rights Commission and minority group leaders have said that the attack was deliberate, organised and aimed to grab the lands of the minority community people.
Until now, two cases have been filed over the incident. Several people were detained over the attack and some of them shown arrested in the cases. However, local Hindus still felt under threat.
Recently, after visiting the affected families in his own constituency, lawmaker Sayedul Haque had remarked that the attack was "nothing as serious" as portrayed.
